If you are a card-maker and not a scrapbooker, you may wonder why you would need 12 x 12″ designer series papers. Well, I used to wonder that too, but I find I use designer series papers on my cards all the time. I have discovered that using pieces of designer series paper can save me time in creating cards. For example, I needed to quickly make a birthday card for our great-granddaughter this morning before heading out to her birthday party. I chose a Very Vanilla card base and a piece of the polka-dotted Afternoon TPicnic Designer Series Paper that was cut 4″ x 5 1/4″. I layered the designer series paper on the card front then stamped the greeting on a scrap of Very Vanilla card stock with Coastal Cabana ink. I used one of the new Chalk Talk Framelits to cut out the greeting and mounted it on the card. Butterflies punched from Silver Glimmer paper were the final touch. Here is the end result. What took the most time was getting out my supplies from all the different places I have them in our travel trailer and putting them back. The card is a little bent because I took the picture after our great-granddaughter opened it. :o)

Recycled Wedding Card

Mother's Day card using home made shimmer mist

In May I shared this Mother’s Day card along with directions for making your own shimmer spritz. You can read about it here. Today I needed a wedding card and began working on my design. I didn’t have wedding greetings in my arsenal, so I turned to MDS and found just what I needed. I printed out the greetings on Whisper White card stock and trimmed them down. I was still trying to decide what to do for the rest of the card when I saw this card lying on my stamping table. I was able to gently lift off the top layer of the card and use it on a different design. The greeting would cover the Happy Mother’s Day that I had stamped directly on the layer. Here is the beautifully recycled wedding card.

A Word for You hybrid cardI really love using Crisp Cantaloupe for the card base. The inside of the card has a greeting from the Curvy Verses stamp set. This stamp set retired this year so it is no longer available for purchase.  But thanks to MDS, I can still use it. You can shop for the supplies I used in my online store.

Supplies:

MDS software disc (130647) or MDS software digital download (130646)

A Word For You stamp brush set (123958), Curvy Verses stamp brush set (129884)

Delicate Doilies Sizzlit die (126999), Big Shot Die-Cutting Machine (113439)

Hybrid Graduation Gift Card Holder – You Go Grad

Hybrid gift card holder 2Pop 'n Cut Card Base DieHybrid gift card holder inside

You may think that the Pop ‘n Cuts Card Base die is only for making pop-up cards but the exclusive closure lends the card base to all kinds of other uses. I used it to make these gift card enclosures. I created the greetings with MDS, printed them on Whisper White card stock and then cut them out. I cut a piece of Pool Party Core’dinations card stock, embossed it with the Delicate Designs embossing folder, and sanded it lightly before adhering it. Go Graduate Plus easy digital card

Go Grduate Plus digital card

Graduation season is upon us and Craig High School’s graduation is tomorrow night. I wanted a quick graduation card but have almost no traditional graduation stamps. Not a problem since I have several stamp brush sets for graduation in my MDS program. :o)  This card is a great project for a beginner with MDS. I created it in 4 quick steps.
1. Open MDS and choose cards and tags>greeting cards>5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ landscape>design your own.

2. Go to backgrounds and choose card stock>Garden Green and apply it to your project.

3. Go to punches and choose Labels and tags>Labels Collection 2 and apply it. Then turn it 90 degrees and center it horizontally and vertically. Fill with Be Yourself Designer Series Paper pattern 1 which comes with the Be Yourself May Kit and add a drop shadow.

4. Go to stamps and choose Go Graduate Plus and add the greeting. Position it as you desire.

You are done! Send this card out to Stampin’ Up!’s professional printer (the inside will be blank since we didn’t add anything to it) or print it out on your printer. I actually created a hybrid card like this. Instead of using the Labels Collection 2 punch, I used a square punch sized to 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″. After printing it out on Whisper White card stock, I used my Labels Collection die to cut out the greeting and mounted it onto a Garden Green card base.

Supplies:
MDS software digital download (130646) or MDS software disc (130647)

Be Yourself May Kit (133426)

Serene Silhouettes Father’s Day Card

Father's Day CardIf you had come to Sunday’s card exchange group, you would have learned how to make this beautiful card. We sribbled on and acrylic block with three colors of markers. Then we spritzed the block with either water or rubbing alcohol and stamped the block on Whisper White card stock. For the workshop we used the rubbing alcohol in Stampin’ Spritzers so the card stock would dry more quickly. This is a really fun technique and no two stampings are the same. Once the card stock was dry, we overstamped it with a tree from the Serene Silhouettes stamp set using the new luscious In Color Baked Brown Sugar. This is just one of the five yummy colors for the 2013-2015 period. You will want to order them all come May 31! The greeting is from the Delightful Dozen stamp set. The two other colors of card stock are the retiring Baja Blue and Lucky Limeade.

A Sunshine and Sprinkles Happy Birthday

Sunshine and Sprinkles digital birthday card

I discovered this morning that today is a friend's birthday and wanted to send a birthday e-card to her via FaceBook. So I open up my MDS2 program on my computer and create a card, attach the photo of it to a comment on her wall and deed is done!

That is one reason I love MDS so much! It is so convenient! There is no mess and no fuss! Are you ready yet to give digital crafting a whirl? Click on the 30-day FREE trial of MDS2 link and get started. I am here to help you so don't hesitate to ask for the help.

Now on to the card. I love the new Sunshine & Sprinkles Designer Series Paper you can purchase from the new Spring Catalog and am so delighted that it is also available in digital form. The colors are so cheery! I used it to fill the flag punch. I added a second flag punch and used the color picker feature to fill it with a shade of blue from the dsp.

The yellow layer is the 1.25" square punch filled with another pattern of the Sunshine & Sprinkles dsp. Originally I had filled it with one of the creamy colors in the flag's dsp. I loved the color but wanted more texture on that layer so I filled the punch with dsp instead. (It's so wonderful to be able to change your mind with a few keystrokes and not have a wasted piece of paper!) The greeting is from the Bring on the Cake stamp brush set. I have included the index for this stamp set and an index of the wonderful Sunshine & Sprinkles dsp below.

Bring on the Valentines!

More Amore DSP Valentine
Now that Christmas and New Year have passed, it's time to get started on your valentines. This card was one of the two cards we made at the Craig card group meeting yesterday. The base is Very Vanilla and we used one of the More Amore Specialty Designer Series Papers (129309) as the next layer. Hearts were cut from Very Vanilla and Primrose Petal card stock using framelit 1 and 3 (the smallest one being #1) of the Hearts Collection Framelits (125599). We used the valentine greeting from the Wacky Wishes stamp set (c-126412, w-126410). Adding a Basic Rhinestone on the small heart give a touch of bling.

Wacky Wishes index
The More Amore Specialty Designer Series Paper is just one of the wonderful designer series papers found in the new Stampin' Up! Spring catalog. If you are one of my regular customers, you should have received one in the mail by now. If you haven't received it or if you don't have a demonstrator, give me an email and I'll be happy to send you one. There are soooo many wonderful new stamping toys to be seen!

Happy New Year!

New Year card-001
Supplies: MDS2+ (130646), MDS2 (130644), MDS2 upgrade (130650), or 30-day FREE trial of MDS2 (130910); StampsOh What Fun Overlays (123568) – new year, Color = VERY VANILLA; Punches – 1.25 Square Punch, Candlelight Christmas – oval from Candlelight Christmas Ensemble (1283135), Freehand Frames – triangle from Freehand Frames Overlays Stamp Brush Set (132559)

Happy New Year! I pray that this coming year is filled with good things and happy memories for you all and plenty of digital creating. I could not find a stamp brush set that had wine glasses in it or champagne glasses so created these by using the oval punch, a square punch for the stem and the triangle punch reshaped for the top of the goblet. Now that I think about it, I realize that champagne wouldn't be drunk from this shape goblet but you get the idea anyway. Cheers!!!

Today is also Terrific Tuesday because, even on New Year's Day, Stampin' Up! has given us new downloads. One of them is even a free calendar for our desktops! Thank you Stampin' Up! Click here to view these downloads and order the ones you like. Come back tomorrow to see what I create with the ones I order. If you haven't tried MDS yet, give it a try by ordering the free 30-day trial of MDS2. Some of the advantages to digital creating are:

  • No need for storage space for your stamps and supplies other than your computer
  • Digital downloads don't retire, wear out, get lost and rarely get damaged. If they do, you can download them again at no additional cost.
  • There is no time wasted getting out supplies and cleaning up afterwards.
  • Your photos are most likely residing on your computer already.
  • If you like the tactile sensation of handling paper and supplies, you can print out your creations and mount them on card stock. Then you can add embelishments to create a hybrid card or scrapbook page.

I love helping people get started with MDS so don't hesitate to give it a try. I am here to help with your questions.

Until next time…blessings,
Sue

Our big Christmas celebration will be on the 27th when all the grandkids and great-grandkids can be here so this morning has been very laid back. After opening our stocking gift and the adult gifts, I have time to play with My Digital Studio. I love that it is sooooo easy to carry with me on vacation! I have created this card to remind us,amidst all the wrappings and presents on the floor, that Jesus is the reason we celebrate. I hope you all will take a little time spent in adoring Him.

Happy Thanksgiving

Grateful Heart Thanksgiving card 2012-001
Supplies: MDS2+ (130646), MDS2 (130644), MDS2 upgrade (130650), or 30-day FREE trial of MDS2 (130910); Background- crumb cake; Stamps – (comes with MDS disc) Basic Black Texture, (127620) Grateful Heart Thanksgiving Ensemble – family & friends, branch, berries, border 1; embellishment – (131329) Timeless Taffeta TrimmingsReal Red long bow cropped and recolored with Pumpkin Pie

On Saturday night I fried my computer so I haven't been able to post for a while. Yesterday the tech person at school was able to miraculously resurrect the computer so I am good to go again. I hope you have had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends. We went over to a friend's home for dinner and now are feeling the effects of over-eating and the tryptophane in the turkey is making us struggle to stay awake. Nap time except it is 6:30 pm, much to early to go to bed and too late for a nap.

I created this card for you using many elements from the GratefulHearts Thanksgiving Ensemble. The Happy Thanksgiving is in two text boxes using the Handwriting – Dakota font, size 36. I added the bow at the top and recolored it with Pumpkin Pie and cropped off one of the ends slightly. I love that we can do these things with the new MDS2+ program.

Before I close, let me remind you of Stampin' Up!'s Online Extravaganza. There are bargains to be found of up to 50% off. This is the perfect time to find a great gift for your stamping friends. Check out the specials in my online store. Place an order through Nov 28 to not only save money but also receive a hand-made ornament from me.

Until next time…blessings,

My Digital Studio Monday – Thanks to Teachers!

Back to School MDS Monday-001 copy

Our church in addition to devoting a portion of the worship service to remembering and praying for the victims of 9/11 and their families honored and prayed blessings on the teachers and staff of the school on Prince of Wales Island. Since the theme for today is Back to School, I felt it was fitting to create a Thank You card for teachers.

I used the digital form of the retired Play Date Designer Series Paper. One of the beauties of My Digital Studio is that the downloads never retire…yay!!! I used two sizes of the Perfect Label punch, filling one of them with Daffodil Delight and the other with Basic Black. The greeting comes from the School Days II Stamp Brush Set. The greeting has an apple as part of the stamp brush. I wanted to be able to color the apple so I pasted the apple from the School Days stamp brush set colored with Cherry Cobbler over the original apple. While it is quite gratifying to hold a stamp in your hand, ink it up, and then stamp it on paper, the ability to make a stamp smaller and to resize punches really creates added value to My Digital Studio and to digital creations. If you haven't yet given My Digital Studio a try, why not??? Click here to order it right now and get started. I am here to answer your questions and give you help. For those of you who already have My Digital Studio or who use a different digital design program but want to create this card for yourself, just click on the names of the downloads I used to find them in my online store.

Supplies:
