Washi Wednesday – Washi Christmas Cards

Handmade Christmas card using All Is Calm Designer Washi Tape and Snowflake Card Thinlits DiesYep…here is another Washi Wednesday with three more cards using washi tape. This first one uses the All Is Calm Designer Washi Tape (135844) to create a series of banners behind the snowflake. I had cut out the Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer paper (135315) with the Snowflake Card Thinlits die and found it lying on my stamping table. I cut the blue snowflake from Lost Lagoon cardstock and the Joy from a Gold Foil Sheet (132622) using other dies from the Snowflake Card Thinlits Dies (135855).

In this post, I described how I cut out the large snowflake from glimmer paper. Since then I actually took the time to watch Stampin’ Up’s video on how to use the die and learned a much easier way to cut out the snowflake:

  1. Place a 3 3/4″ square of cardstock/glimmer paper under the snowflake part of the card base die and run it through the Big Shot.
  2. Remove the cardstock , turn it 90 degrees, and replace it under the die lining up the cut parts with the corresponding parts of the snowflake.
  3. Run it through the Big Shot again. Voila! You now have a perfectly cut snowflake. This is also the way to cut out the large snowflake from the Letterpress Winter stamp set (photopolymer 135145). However, lining up the die to the stamped image is very difficult. I found it much easier to first cut the snowflake shape out and then stamp the image on it. The photopolymer stamp make placement of the image on the die cut much, much easier.

Handmade Christmas card using the Santa and Company Designer Washi tape and Letterpress Winter stamp set Handmade Christmas card using the Santa & Co Designer Washi Tape and Wondrous Wreat Thinlit DiesThese are two more versions of this washi tape Christmas card. The top card shows the result of following the directions above using the large snowflake die from the Letterpress Winter stamp set (135143). I used the Santa and Co. Designer Washi Tape (135843) on this card and the next one. The Joy and the larger snowflake were cut from Gold Glimmer paper (133719) using one of the dies from the Snowflake Card Thinlits Dies as was the Marina Mist smallest snowflake. I love how the various stamp sets and dies work so well together!

The third card is a little less detailed. I used the Santa and Co. Designer Washi tape and added the word ‘joy’ cut from Red Glimmer paper (121790). I added a bow from Silver 1/8″ Ribbon (132137). I don’t know which one I like best. How about you? Leave your choice in a comment below. To order the supplies to make these cards, click on the images below.

MDS Monday – Herringbone Technique

Digital birthday card with a herringbone background using Be Yourself designer series papers

Welcome to MDS Monday. This week our challenge is to make a herringbone background using narrow rectangles. Here is the challenge sketch:

MDSM86 challenge sketch using a herringbone backgroundI filled rectangles with various patterns of designer series paper from Be Yourself May Digital Download and solid colors chosen by the color picker to match the designer series paper. The grosgrain ribbon started out as Regal Rose and I recolored it with Rich Razzleberry color. The starburst came with the Game Daby Photobook template.

The technique is shared in this video by Juanita Golson

Halloween Wondrous Wreath

Handmade Halloween card created with the Woundrous Wreath stamp set and diesHere is another great idea I had for the Wondrous Wreath bundle. I am having so much fun with this stamp set and corresponding dies. I love how Stampin’ Up! attached little handles to the wreath stamps and to their corresponding dies so we have a reference point for lining them up correctly. I used the little bats stamp and the greeting from the Holiday Home stamp set. I wish the bats were a little larger though. I guess the wreath is just full of baby bats….LOL!

If you missed the other cards I created with this Wondrous Wreath bundle check this post. Have I convinced you yet that you need this stamp set? Go order it and the supplies needed to make this card now by clicking on the images below.

World Card Making Day – Wondrous Wreath

I told you yesterday to come back later in the day to see what I had created for World Card Making Day but there was no later post for you to see. That’s because I was having such fun creating cards that I ran out of time to post them. Here they are in all their glory.

I really, really am glad I bought this Wondrous Wreath bundle. It was one of the sets I thought I could do without until I saw all the great cards others were creating with the set. None of these ideas are original with me but…hey…in the stamping world CASEing (copy and sharing everything) is a great type of flattery! These cards show off how versatile this set is.

A week or so ago, I wrote a post about the new Snowflake Card Thinlits Dies. Here is that post. Today I have another version of that card that my stamping groups made this past weekend.

MDS Monday – Using Overlays

Digital birthday card using a Natural Composition OverlayHere is my version of the MDS Monday 79 challenge to use an overlay on our projects. When I saw this beautiful floral lace overlay in my files, I decided to create a feminine birthday card. Our sketch looks like this

sketch for MDS Monday 79 challengeI didn’t want to cover up the beautiful lace so I kept the elements rather small. I substituted the greeting on a tag for the photo on the right and flowers for the other photos. While the leaves aren’t in the sketch, I just had to add them. The tag is colored Whisper White but it was so strong a color in contrast to the flowers that I decreased the opacity to 60% and got just the right color.

Have you tried My Digital Studio yet? It is a fun way to create cards, scrapbook pages, and 3-D items using MDS. Here are some of the benefits of this program:

  • You have a complete paper-crafting room in the amount of space of your computer and maybe a printer. All you need to add is cardstock, scissors, and adhesive if you want to make hybrid and 3-D projects.
  • Getting set up to create is just a matter of opening the program on your computer. There is no gathering supplies.
  • When you try something and it doesn’t look right, all you have to do it delete it and begin again or change out a greeting or designer series paper. There is no wasted paper.
  • MDS downloads do not retire so the ones you buy are available as long as you have the program. This means that if you are also a traditional stamper, you can print out the digital version of some of the designer series papers when you run out and you can print out just the patterns you like. Again, no waste of having papers you don’t like lying around.
  • If you are into digital photography like so many of us, your photos are stored on your computer. By designing digital scrapbook pages with MDS, you save the steps of printing out your photo and then cropping it before you can scrap it. MDS even allows you to enlarge and shrink your photos to fit you need.
  • Stampin’ Up! has an excellent printer who calibrates their inks so that your scrapbook pages and cards come back from the printer with colors that match the ribbon and embellishments you have on hand. This makes hybrid pages so easy!
  • Finally, when you are finished working on your project or have to quit, there is no clean up. All you have to do is save your project and close out the program.

Have I convinced you to give MDS a try? It is not difficult to learn and I am happy to help you get started. You have three ways to order it, with a digital download, a software disc, or even try it for 30 days for FREE. Click on one of the links below to order through my online store.

Work of Art – Christmas card

handmade Christmas card created with Work of Art stamp setI think this Christmas card will be the last card I share using the Work of Art stamp set (wood – 134111, clear – 134114). To see the previous ones I have shared click here, herehere and here. I also used stamps from the new photopolymer sets White Christmas (135767) and Wondrous Wreath (135047) which you will be able to order from the Holiday catalog beginning Aug 28.

Although the photo does not show it well, the layer behind to scene is Gold Foil Sheets (132622). I also punched the star from the gold foil sheet using the star punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack (133787).

MDS Monday – Birthday Time

Digital Birthday Card using Perfectly Penned Stamp Brush SetGuess what day it is! No it is not ‘hump’ day but my birthday! So for this MDS Monday I created this digital birthday card. I used Be Yourself designer series paper which I love and one of my favorite stamp brush sets, Perfectly Penned. See the satin ribbon and bow? Did you know that you can recolor embellishments to almost any color you desire? This ribbon was originally Very Vanilla and I recolored it with Coastal Cabana. I love the soft color that was the result.

Since it is my birthday, I am going to celebrate by giving YOU a gift of FREE SHIPPING today, August 4th only. I will need to place the order for you so email me or give me a call with your order. Terrific Tuesday – Giggle Greetings

Giggle Greetings stamp brush set

Hey, it’s Terrific Tuesday and we have three terrific new MDS downloads for you. I ended up getting all three but chose this one, Giggle Greetings (138005) to create this light-hearted graduation card. I colored the pup like our mini-dachshund, Scout. This was such an easy card to make. All I have to do now is to print it out as a card front and mount it on card stock for a hybrid card. It would take me less than 30 minutes total. See how easy MDS can be and how handy when you realize that you need a card at the last minute. Check out and order the new downloads by clicking on their images below.

Check out these Weekly Deals. They are only available at these prices through next Monday so be sure to stock up with these great savings.

Shaped Card – The Open Sea

The Open Sea shaped hybrid cardThe current MDS Monday challenge is to create a shaped hybrid card. I needed a couple of graduation cards and decided this challenge was the perfect time to get these cards made. I chose to use The Open Sea stamp brush set (124112) for this project. I opened an 8 1/2″ x 11″ portrait blank scrapbook page and added this image to the work space. I then set the dimensions to 5 1/2″ wide and colored the image. I added Very Vanilla cardstock to the background although I really didn’t need to since I was going to print it out on Very Vanilla card stock.

Since I wanted two cards, I copied and pasted the image on the same page. I printed it out on Very Vanilla card stock. This gave me my card front. For the card base, I folded an 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ sheet of Very Vanilla card stock in half and oriented it landscape way. I held up this folded piece of card stock and the card front to a window so I could position the fold just at the top of the sails and taped the two together. I then cut the image out through both the card front and the card base. All that was left to do is glue the two together.

I created the greeting on the computer and printed it out on vellum paper. I adhered it to the card with tape designed for adhering vellum. Sorry but all the information on the roll of take is that it is scrapbook tape. I have had it a looong time and forget where I got it.

I really love the way this card turned out. I challenge you to make a hybrid shaped card using MDS for your image. If you do, send me a photo of it and I’ll share it here. You could say that you had been published. :o)

Wetlands Masculine Birthday Card

Wetlands Masculine Birthday CardI took time today to create a card for a couple of challenges on a demo group I belong to, SUDSOL. I just recently received the Wetlands stamp set (126695-w, 126697-c) and this is the first time I have used it. It is great for masculine cards! The greeting is from a hostess set Express Yourself . I love the font of this set! I used the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (127821)for some texture on the card front.
